Mr. Ray, who says he does not make product endorsements lightly, now highly recommends HalcyonTM Shades to other businesses as a "good investment." He takes pride in the fact that he did not just purchase any shade. "We purchased the latest problem-solving technology that meets all of our needs. And the bonus is that HalcyonTM Shades exceeded our expectation."   (next case history)

Bill Ray, president of WCXL and WWOC radio, built his broadcast studio to withstand hurricanes, floods, earthquakes and tornadoes. Because it is situated in the coastal area of Elizabeth City, NC, just miles from Virginia Beach, the studio is often subject to severe weather. Additionally, the building is exposed to harsh heat and glare from the sun, both from the east in the morning and the west in the afternoon.
The contemporary design of the building includes windows across the front and the back. If left uncovered, glare from the sun reflects on computer terminals, broadcast control dials and screens for reading on-air copy. Additionally, the overall privacy of the business is compromised and the added heat interferes with the studio's energy efficiency. However, if the windows are covered to provide privacy and eliminate heat and glare problems, employees have no view of the outside, which detracts from the appeal and productivity of the work environment.
Mr. Ray turned to Perry Glass in Elizabeth City, NC for a solution. "They tend to think out of the box," he says, praising their recommendation to install HalcyonTM Shades made with LLUMAR® Technology.
The transparent HalcyonTM Shades installed in the studio reject up to 99% of damaging ultraviolet (UV) rays and up to 80% of the sun's energy. Additionally, their ability to combine transparency with low visible light transmission provides daytime privacy, exceptional (99%) glare reduction and protection from fading of interior furnishings.
