October 9, 2009. Mayor Francis Slay of the City of St. Louis, Missouri presented Habitata Building Products, the company that owns the Halcyon Shades brand, with a Business Of The Year Award citing the company’s relocation of shade production from Mexico to St. Louis, job creation and product innovation. Habitata acquired the assets of Halcyon Shades in April, 2009 and within two weeks had relocated production back to the United States. In the process Habitata converted an empty grocery store into a production facility, warehouse and office space in what used to be one of the worst neighborhoods in the city.
